On Saturday my clean eating books finally came! I was super excited, but kind of bummed that they came the day after I did the shopping for the week.
I really like everything they have to say. It all makes sense and for the most part I have already been eating clean already. I think the hardest part will be the sugar. It's not like I eat a lot of sugar--but I love to bake (if you couldn't tell...) and although I usually cut the sugar significantly in most recipes, it's kind of hard to cut it out completely (and still have it be edible.) Another thing that I personally might need to modify is the fact that I have a wheat intolerance, so I can't eat much in the way of whole wheat products. It's fine as long as I really limit it to once a day.
And then the main thing--getting the kids on board. Again, I feel like I feed them a relatively healthy menu most of the time, but these books have convinced me that I need to cut the sugar. This morning I made this yummy overnight apple pie oatmeal for breakfast and when I got home from CrossFit, Ryan was scooping spoonfuls of brown sugar into it because the kids didn't think it was sweet enough. (That's because there was no sweetener in it.) I think it's going to have to be a gradual transition for them!
I'm anxious for the energy that this way of eating promises. I have been exhausted lately and gotten splitting headaches the past two days. I'm not sure what that is all about, but hopefully it is short lived. I can't keep napping in the afternoons!
