Running, sprinting, biking with the girls and the dog

This morning I had a brilliant idea--I would drop Lincoln off at preschool and go for a run while the girls rode their bikes (they are off-track.)  The best part of the plan was that we would bring Kirby with us.  Kirby is our 100 lb. golden retriever in case you were wondering.  Well, this plan was a lot better on paper than it was in reality.  I forgot that Kirby really hates to feel like he is being left behind.  So when the girls took off ahead of us on their bikes, he took off too--dragging me a long behind him.  About a half mile into this I had to call it off.  I had certainly NOT intended to sprint the entire distance!  We ran Kirby back home and then started over, so that by the time we finished the loop we had run/sprinted and biked about 4 miles.

One thing I have noticed about exercising with my kids--it becomes an excellent time to talk.  Every time we do anything I notice this--whether we are hiking, biking or running or whatever, they tend to gravitate to me and really open up.  We end up having some of the best conversations during these times.  The only drawback to that today was that it meant I couldn't listen to music while I ran, which makes it SO much harder!!!!  Good practice for Saturday.  I was hoping that because this race isn't USAT sanctioned, that we would get to listen to ipods, but today on the website I saw that I was out of luck.  Still against the rules.  WHY??  Maybe I will just have to sing as I run...at least in my head.
